Our goals are simple. We want to educate vacation destination's on how to become and stay "deaf and hard of hearing friendly". We also want to give the deaf and hard of hearing community a source to plan a well deserved vacation, or just a weekend "get away".

According to NHIS(National Center for Health Statistics), across all age groups in the United States, approximately 1,000,000 people are "functionally deaf". About 8,000,000 people over 5 years of age are hard of hearing (that is, have some difficulty hearing normal conversation even with the use of a hearing aid). According to The Deaf Welcome Foundation these numbers are actually much higher, with figures between 16 and 25 million! We emphasize that these estimates are based upon self-reported (or informant-reported) hearing difficulty and not on independent audiometric measurements.

The bottom line: EVERYBODY is entitled to equal access. Although the Americans with Disabilities Act provides some minimal relief in this arena, S.E.E. believes that "minimal is not enough" and has developed an extensively researched and scrutinized inspection protocol by which we certify that a business isn't just minimally compliant: it is indeed
"Deaf and Hard of Hearing FRIENDLY".
